School District No. 49 (Central Coast) lies within the shared traditional territories of the Nuxalk, Heiltstuk, and Oweekeno Nations.
The language and cultural programs within the schools offer a wide array of opportunities to enhance the learning opportunities for all First Nations learners. The school district's Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement with the Nuxalk provides the goals, strategies and structures used as a framework for the success of our students.
What is an Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement?
An Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement (EA) is a working agreement between a school district, all local Aboriginal communities, and the Ministry of Education. The purpose of an EA is to create specific goals to meet the educational needs of Aboriginal students. EA's are created through dialogue with district staff and members of the Aboriginal communities within the district.
